Vassell Advises Agbonlahor Stay

Aston Villa star Gabriel Agbonlahor has been linked with a move away from the club, but the club’s former striker Darius Vassell says that the former England international should consider staying at the club and become a legend. Agbonlahor came through the ranks at Aston Villa and has played for the club ever since. He made his debut in 2005 and he has made more than 250 appearances in the league for the club. At 27 years of age, he is the prime of his career, but the presence of players like Christian Benteke have led to the striker being starved of opportunities up front.

Manager Paul Lambert has been utilising Agbonlahor as a winger and it has been the case with the last few managers as well. As a result, there have been suggestions that the striker may decide to leave Villa in the hope of being a regular striker for different club. This may also improve his chances of appearing for the national team once again. Agbonlahor has three international caps for the England national team, but he is nowhere near consideration for the World Cup 2014. Agbonlahor will be a free agent in the summer and there have been signs that he may decide to leave the club.

“Right now, where Villa are at, they should keep him and he should sign that deal and continue to progress. I don’t think there’s much else out there for him. Like me he’s a home-grown player, loves the club, his family is probably based here so why not be another Giggs? Be the Giggs of Villa. He’s at that crossroads I was at at a similar stage. I left when I was 24 and you make that decision, ‘how am I doing at the club’? Gabby is doing well and you know what you’re going to get from him each season,” said Darius Vassell.
